In a few days my oldest daughter Mackenzie and I are going on a little three day getaway to florida. Over the past several years, she has in my eyes had a lot of growing up to do in a short time. The divorce between her Dad and I took its toll on her. She was 11 at the time, so she was just becoming a pre-teen when things started changing around her. I worked full time, and at times I wasn't with her as much as I would've liked to be. I felt like she was forced to grow up quick, and sometimes when you are going through tough times or changes in your life you get caught up in whats going on and need to reconnect. When Henry and I got married that was hard on her too, she had a lot of adjusting to do, when I feel like she should've been able to enjoy life more as a child.
I know we all go through hard times in one way or another, and some would say its just life. However, when its your child going through tough times, as a parent you feel more responsible, like you wish you could prevent hard times from ever happening to them. She went back and forth weekly between her Dad and I, it was hard on me, but even harder on her, but she did well with it all. I think this little getaway will give us a chance to reconnect, a way for us to just spend time together....good times.
